All 50 states and DC

Start with the two states you are moving between

Pick the state you are leaving or the one you are moving to, then your state pair. It shows the income tax, sales tax and cost of living on both sides of the line, the road miles and a modelled price for a two-bedroom home.

A dozen state pairs to start with, beginning with California to Texas. Distances are estimated road miles; delivery windows and prices are modelled, not quotes.

Every state and DC has two pages: one for moving out and one for moving in.

From two states to written estimates

The numbers here help you budget. The price you can hold a mover to comes in writing.

  1. Pick your two states

Open your state, then the pair. You get road miles, a modelled window and a modelled price.

  2. See what changes

Compare income tax, sales tax and cost of living on both sides of the state line.

  3. Get it in writing

The 8 Top Movers moving team gets rates from the licensed movers in its network and brings back written estimates. You never pay us.

Questions about moving to another state

Short answers before you pick a page.

Which page should I open for my move?

Open the page for the state you are leaving or the state you are moving to. Each one lists the state pairs we have written, with estimated road miles, a modelled delivery window and a modelled price range for a two-bedroom home.

Are the prices on these pages quotes?

No. They come from our own cost model (road miles, a typical volume for the home size and a season factor) and are for budgeting. Written estimates come from licensed movers through the 8 Top Movers moving team. You never pay us, and asking is never a booking.

What changes when I move to another state?

Your state income tax, sales tax and cost of living can all change, and each state pair page compares them side by side. Your new state also sets its own rules and deadlines for a driver’s license and vehicle registration, so check its motor vehicle agency once you know your moving date.

Does an interstate mover need a federal license?

Yes. A mover that carries household goods across a state line needs operating authority from the FMCSA and a USDOT number. Ask every mover for its number and look it up on the FMCSA website before you book.
